A Paramedic's Children

"A Paramedic's Children"
“Unable to put it down, a tower of strength. I was able to relate to all in the book, even though I share the same experience and visions I could not express it any better. Awesome. I am 100% for your SACS (Serious About Child Safety) campaign. All my blessing and support.”...[more]

Subject: "RescueRoxy" Child Health and Safety Presentations

The biggest killer of children in South Africa is trauma. This includes road accidents, falls, assault, drowning, burns, and other unnatural causes. Carte Blanche recently presented a short program highlighting the dangers regarding vehicle safety. The public's response to this program signified that there is a gap in the market for a drive for public awareness and education.

Having been involved in the emergency services myself since 1994, I am well aware of the shortfalls regarding the public's knowledge regarding their awareness of the situation. Unfortunately, I have realised that there are no significant actions taken by either the government or private institutions to address this serious problem.

It is for this reason that RescueRoxy ™ and the Africure Academy® are joining forces to launch the RescueRoxy project. The plan is for children, parents and teachers not only to be made aware of but also to be educated regarding child health and safety aspects both in and outside the home.

The presentations consist of 3 phases:

· Phase 1: The first part will be directed at younger children with Hazard Harry (the clumsy clown) and Medic Mike . This skit will effectively highlight some dangers that children may encounter and the responses to emergencies if they occur. Children in this age group will be given the chance to win prizes in a colouring competition. These children will then be asked to go see what some call the “Magic Car” (Primary Response Vehicle) while the next phase takes place.

· Phase 2: The next focus will be directed at older children emphasizing that the preceding skit may have been humorous but in fact the dangers are real and appropriate actions must be taken. Further steps in the treatment of a victim will be demonstrated, statistics highlighted, and analogies used to emphasise the seriousness. A poster will be given to each class in this age group to complete and they will then stand a chance to win a prize. [Presentations directed at teenagers (High Schools) does not involve a clown and an alternative, effective method of education will be used]

· Phase 3: A meeting with the available teachers and delegates will be held in the school board room to sum up the vision and mission of the RescueRoxy project.

The plan is to take this presentation to schools throughout South Africa. RescueRoxy ™ is currently looking for short, medium and long-term sponsors. We believe that private companies and institutions will be willing to fund this project once they realise the potential for a return on investment.

RescueRoxy envisages that it will become synonymous with Child Health and Safety and that Hazard Harry and Medic Mike will become well known characters throughout South Africa and eventually internationally.

RescueRoxy will be launching this exciting project at the Bryanston Primary School on Friday, 18 June 2004 from 08h00 . This first presentation will lay the foundation for all future presentations. JSN Motors Bryanston will be awarded the prestigious S.A.C.S. (Serious About Child Safety) Commemorative Plaque for sponsoring this landmark presentation.

Best regards,

Mark G. Roxburgh (N.Dip AET) – Project Manager
